FROM THE DESK OF ANDREW JANSON Andrew Janson, President We work in a competitive field, where the players are young and old, big and small. Warehousing companies are often measured by scale, history or location. The IARW measures member warehouses using a yardstick of cubic feet, and I suspect this is a carryover from the days of the USDA storage reports. Hanson Logistics lands smack dab in the middle of that scale, smaller than some, bigger than most. At 14.7 million cu. ft., our Chicago Consolidation Center is, by all yardsticks, a very, very large facility. But that’s not what makes it big and important. What makes this sparkling new campus big is the size of the “Yes, We Can!” team spirit. What makes it important is the fact that we’ve been asked to deliver our customers’ products to their customers, to execute the order, and to be the ambassadors of the “final mile”. To the president of a mid-sized ice cream company working to build a national brand, the regional 3PL with national distribution is, to him, one of the most important companies in the world. The transportation company with competitive rates and a consistent on-time delivery record to national retail and foodservice DCs is ‘big’ in the eyes of the customer; as is the phone call that’s returned promptly, the help at 5 pm Friday and the willingness to exceed expectations.
