Letter From The President

Dear Friends,

As I write to you today, we are at the mid-point in what appears to be one of the largest Michigan fruit harvests in a very long time. Across the board, there is a high demand for fruit storage in all facilities. Tons of apples and sweet cherries, a tremendous crop of tart cherries, a very good grape crop, and a strong blueberry crop ... if it’s fruit, it’s at bumper crop levels.

While this is good news for Hanson Logistics, this large crop has certainly come with its challenges. As a result of the economic slowdown, inventories have remained high in most of our facilities. We have been challenged to meet our customers’ needs in terms of space planning, expedited and accurate receiving and put-away; and I am proud to report that our Hanson Teammates are meeting those challenges.

I am also pleased to report that we have recently completed major projects at our Hart and Hartford facility. Both of these projects involved a major investment in new pallet racking to create additional storage capacity. Additionally, the Hartford project added a significant improvement to the existing refrigeration system to allow for increased freezing capability. These projects went very smoothly due to a lot of hard work and planning on the part of many Teammates throughout our organization.

Our Velocities™ Multi-Vendor Consolidation program continues to expand, shipping nearly 40 consolidated loads per week to various retailer and wholesaler DC’s throughout the country. We are achieving top marks on our weekly scorecard; again the hallmark of Hanson Teammate efforts. Phase I of our Chicago Consolidation Center is at capacity, and we are preparing to break ground on Phase II in mid-2010. We’ll keep you posted on our progress.

Please join me in welcoming Blake Larkin to the Hanson Logistics team. As you’ll read here, Blake’s credentials and experience makes him a great fit with our organization, and he comes naturally with the all important ‘Yes, We Can!’ attitude.
