Hanson Logistics Featured In
Supply Chain Magazine As Cold Storage Logistic Leaders
Written by Sarah Wolfe

For Hanson Logistics, shaking hands with a client often closes a deal. Though this might seem risky to some, the company prides itself on its Midwest culture of straightforward honesty and trust, with many long-term customer relationships.

“We have strong ties to the Midwest,” says Andrew B. Janson, President of the St. Joseph, MI-based company. “Most in the industry would view our company as a highly customer-centric, super-regional provider of temperature-controlled warehousing and transportation for the Midwest states of Michigan, Indiana and Illinois.”

Hanson Logistics evolved from Hanson Cold Storage, which was founded in 1954 to support the fruit and vegetable grower community. The original company grew to become the 13th largest refrigerated warehouse network in the country, with eight facilities in Michigan and Indiana and a total capacity of 34,000,000 cubic square feet of deep frozen, refrigerated and dry warehousing space.

“Five years ago, in response to our customers, we entered into the transportation business as a 3PL for an additional value-added service,” Janson says. “That has been received extremely well by our customers and has allowed us to grow in the Midwest and add the Chicago market.”

Today, Hanson Logistics offers company-owned trucks, refrigerated warehousing and technology, with the flexibility of non-asset services when structuring supply chain solutions for a growing number of food processors, distributors and retailers. The division falls under the Hanson Group, overseen by Gregory P. Hanson, Vice Chairman. Three generations work for the company today, says Janson, and the family also operates three other businesses and oversees real estate holdings.

Janson joined the former Hanson Cold Storage company in 2004 as Vice President of Business Development and was appointed Executive Vice President in 2007. Overall, he has 25 years of experience in food logistics and currently serves as Chairman of the International Refrigerated Transportation Association. He is also a former member of the Board of Governors of the World Food Logistics Organization.
